Anna University was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of university. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology, and Allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected need of the society. Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities.


College of Engineering, Guindy(CEG) in Chennai is the India’s oldest engineering and technical college, having been established in 1794. Today it is one of the four constituent colleges of Anna University. It’s one of India’s premier technical institution preferred by the eligible top scorers. It was started in May 1794 as a School of the survey and established in 1859 under Madras University and is one of the oldest technical institutes in the world. It is the oldest engineering institute in India. It has link-ups with institutes and organizations like USAID, UNCHS, Ford Foundation, European Economic Community and the Governments of Germany and UK. It was the first college in the country to have its own postage stamp when the Indian postal service brought out a postage stamp to mark the 200th anniversary of the institution.


The Department of Manufacturing Engineering (DoME) plays an active role in the programs offered by the prestigious Anna University. DoME was established in the year 2002 (formerly known as Production Engineering division under the Department of Mechanical Engineering established in the year 1967). DoME is well committed to grooming technically competent Manufacturing Engineers and Research testing and consultancy in cutting-edge technologies. Its major strength consists of brilliant and top class students, highly qualified and dedicated faculty members, state of art infrastructure, modern laboratories research-oriented curriculum, well stocked Departmental Library and excellent training facilities. Research areas of DoME include CAD/CAM/CIM, Metrology, and measurements, Robotics, Micro Machining, Non-traditional machining, nanomaterials, Composite materials, Rapid Prototyping, and Manufacturing.


“THE SOCIETY OF INDUSTRIAL AND PRODUCTION ENGINEERS”(SIPE) was established in the year 1968 to empower the students of production background. Later in the year 1996, it was renamed as ASSOCIATION OF MANUFACTURING ENGINEERS(AME) for the young minds of manufacturing division. Since then AME has proved to be an effective contributor in the expansion of knowledge. This year AME completes its 21 years of existence.
